Quick easy scrap quilt patterns to make you smile – in Scrap Quilt Projects ebook from one of the UK’s foremost quilting teachers, Katharine Guerrier. The finished projects are ideal for the home, for gifts, or for fundraising events. Choose from a pencil case, needlecase, tablemats, a novelty chicken doorstop, shopping and laundry bags, cushions, a mini wallhanging, and medium-sized Flying Geese quilt. Many of these scrap quilt patterns can be made from leftover fabric scraps from your quilting stash.

Template-free quick piecing methods make for speedy production in many of the projects, and where templates are required, these can be printed straight from your PC. Several techniques (such as quick pieced Flying Geese, asymmetrical star, prairie points) are introduced to expand a beginner’s skills, or broaden the expertise of those with more experience.

So, if you are already a committed quilter, take a break from long-term projects to enjoy the satisfaction of completing something quickly. If you are a complete beginner, these scrap quilt projects make a good introduction to some basic patchwork and machine quilting techniques.

‘A great book if you are looking for quick and cheerful projects to give away as gifts, for sale tables or to fine tune your patchwork skills. The colours and detail came alive on my computer screen and I had no problem browsing through the book, formatted as a 60 page PDF. It’s PC and Mac compatible, there are direct links to suppliers’ websites and all the templates can be printed off. Katharine has included very clear directions and you can print these out, project by project. I think I might prefer to go for the paperless option and do my bit for the environment. A perfect gift for those who want to save the planet and create some lovely gifts and accessories whilst doing so.’ – Popular Patchwork

This CD book has ten quick and easy little projects, each makeable from fabric scraps. Projects are suitable for use around the home or as gifts or as sale items at fundraising events. The patterns range from practical – a pretty needlecase and a pencil case – to whimsical. Who can resist the chicken doorstop? Larger projects include a contemporary placemat set and a medium sized quilt.

Typical of a Guerrier title, techniques are explained in logical order, good detail and clear English. Sewing instructions are easy to follow. People new to patchwork will learn many new techniques in the process of making these fun little projects – how to make quick-pieced flying geese units, bind a quilt, work raw edge bonded appliqué, cut and sew easy half square triangles or make Prairie Points. Everything that one would need to know to make a first quilt is included in the step-by-step instructions given for the Flying Geese Quilt. The illustrated instructions for quick method quarter-square triangles and for diamond-in-a-square units will be useful to even the most experienced quilters. Many of the template free techniques help to broaden piecing skills and can be applied to wide ranging projects beyond this CD.

Projects grade in difficulty and build on techniques used in previous chapters. A few simple units made for the Flying Geese Shopper then become the piecing start point for projects such as the beautiful Amish Star Wallhanging.

Guerrier’s use of recycled fabrics and even recycled embroideries is topical and apt. Quick scrappy gifts and craft stall sale items are both fun and economical to make. Quilt groups may wish to make Humbug Bags, Shoppers or other items to boost group funds. Dedicated quilters will enjoy the refreshing break from larger projects and the opportunity to use scraps- Meg Leach for Patchwork and Quilting

Another great book, perfectly suited to this format. I bought it on Sunday and by Tuesday had already made the fan needlecase. A help file on printing might be a good idea, as you can get different sizes of templates depending on your paper size etc.

Once again, Katharine Guerrier has come up with some brilliant ideas for quick and easy ‘makes’. Her use of colour brings all these projects alive, and makes you want to rush to your stash and start stitching. I particularly like the chicken doorstop and the flying geese quilt. The instructions are clear and the excellent photographs and illustrations give alternative colourways. Both the beginner and experienced patchworker can find much here to enjoy.

Scrap Quilt Projects demonstrates in an easy to access format how quilting can be taught online.I was impressed by the ease with which I, as a novice CD Rom book user, could navigate the projects.Titles such as Petal Needlecase,Humbug Pouch and Flying Geese Quilt are all set out to entice the viewer to go from page to page and enjoy the brilliantly produced range of items to make. Katharine has used her considerable workshop and writing experience to present the 10 projects with clear and comprehensive instructions plus fabric and design notes on which she can advise with credibility. The template free quick piecing, plus printable templates where required, offer stress free success for beginners and more experienced Quilters alike. You will want to print off the pages for any chosen project as soon as possible as you will be very keen to get started. The final section for general techniques is extremely thorough and directly linked to the projects – any doubts about how to execute a particular technique will be quickly cast to one side as the explicit photographs beautifully illustrate the techniques. Ideal as a gift for novices, perhaps younger, computer literate teenagers and also quilters who keen to own a work by an acclaimed Quilter which takes up less space on the bookshelf!
